27 days ago, I purchased a $600 toolbox from Menard’s. Today, it’s on sale for $60 less than what I paid.

Their price match policy is only 14 days, but they have a 90 day return policy. I’ve never agreed with that policy, because they’ll happily let you return an item and re-buy it. In this case, the toolbox is excessively heavy, so returning it is difficult.

I stopped in and asked politely for a price match. The first girl said it wasn’t possible, but happily volunteered a manager. The manager came over, and without saying anything started typing at the computer. She said the computer wouldn’t let her do a price adjustment. That implies that she was willing to do it, but couldn’t, simply because of a computer limitation.

I then asked to return the toolbox and re-buy it. She said I would need to bring it in. I asked if it made sense for me to bring it in, have her look at it for 2 seconds, adjust it, and then let me take it home. She said that was their policy, and if she didn’t see the toolbox it was “fraud”.

Why do they have to be like this? I can understand strict rules, but treat your customers right. I spend a lot of money there. On the receipt for the toolbox alone I spent $900.

I’m now going to purchase the toolbox again at the sale price, and promptly return it using the old receipt. I’m sure John Menard, Jr. can spare $60 of his $7.3 billion.

The speed zone change tailgater - On my way to work in the morning, there is an area where the speed limit changes from 65 down to 55. To keep up with the average speed of traffic, I tend to slow down, but I end up speeding more in the 55 zone. It never fails that half of the cars I recently passed end up tailgating me. I’m not sure why they think that going 5 MPH over the speed limit was too much, and then 10 over is not enough.

The insane speeder - It never fails that someone passes me going 90. They must enjoy getting tickets.

The hopeless optimist - This one really drives me crazy for some reason. I’ll be stuck behind two cars driving side by side going the same speed. They’re basically blocking the road. Then the idiot behind me decides to change lanes and hit the gas because he’s pissed at me. This driver is apparently oblivious to the fact that the road is blocked, until they’re tailgating the cars in front of us. At that point, he has to slam on his brakes.

The speed retarded - These people are the opposite of cruise control. I’ll set my cruise for 70, and for 10 minutes they’ll pass me, then slow down, pass me, then slow down.

The Kamikaze Lane changer - This driver decides they’re on the completely wrong side of the road, so they immediately drive across all lanes. I have had a couple of close calls with these ones. Apparently my white car is invisible to them.

The oblivious on-ramp merger - Traffic is cruising along at 70 MPH, when some grandma tries to merge onto the highway. The problem is, there’s no space, because when you’re going 30 MPH and everyone else is going 70, you need about a mile to merge.

The slow left lane driver - Get over you dumbass. One tactic to “fix” the situation is to get in front of them, and slow down until they move over. I have seen this done. The most unbelievable part is that you can often get them down to 30 MPH before changing lanes.

The non-accident gawker - Yes, there is a truck stopped by the side of the road. No, you don’t need to try to figure out what is going on. You don’t need to slow down, and you don’t need to start swerving around the road. This often causes a long chain of accidents. There were 3 on my short drive to work the one morning.

The multitasker - Are you seriously reading the newspaper while going 70 MPH in bumper to bumper traffic? Maybe it would be easier if you put down the cell phone.

The tailgater - These are annoying and dangerous. For extra effect, show how aggravated you are by swerving. I had one of these the one day. It was a truck full of blabbing girls. I slowly put on the brakes, and I had to hit the gas to avoid being rear-ended. The driver of the truck slammed on her brakes and probably put something stinky in her pants.

The lost and confused - You don’t have any idea where you’re going do you? Well, it shows. Your exhibiting some of the traits of the other drivers I mentioned.

The race cars - This one is probably not what you think. This is what 99% of drivers become when a cop merges on to the highway. Apparently they look like a pace car, so everyone has to slow way down. He’ll never know you were going 85, as long as you go 55 in a 65 right now. I pass all of them when I get a chance. It must take forever to get anywhere in a police car. I’m guessing they pull people over just so they can put on the lights and make some progress.

The truck full of crap - If you’re driving huge truck full of crap and it’s uncovered, please don’t take the highway. You see, the winds at highway speeds blow that crap all over me, the road, and other drivers.

The absurdly slow driver - Driving 30 on the highway is DANGEROUS. The gas is the one on the right grandpa.

My friends and family that are looking for family news updates, have to endure posts that they don’t understand. I also think that I don’t have a lot of subscribers because they are turned off by the personal posts.

This site will still be used for my personal posts, but I’m putting any posts relating to c#, ASP.NET, Adobe Flex, and general software development on my new tech blog.

If you’re a friend or family member, keep coming to this site! If you’re anyone else, please subscribe to my tech feed.

Now I just have to figure out if and how I want to convert my old tech posts from this site, to the new site.

Have you seen “The Moment of Truth”? This show makes zero sense to me. I watched the first episode, and got so angry that I stopped watching it. Tonight, there is crap on, and I already flipped the switch to get HD over the air. I’m holding out to see what is on at 8:00.

Here is what they do:

Ask the contestant 50 questions, while hooked up to the lie detector. This is not on the show.

The contestant goes on the show, answers a subset of the questions they were already asked.

The contestant looks around stupidly for a while to stall.

The contestant answers.

The audience makes a “shocked” sound.

A computerized voice says “that answer is”.

30 seconds passes, while everyone looks around.

The computerized voice says whether or not it’s true.

This show should be a piece of cake. The contestant KNOWS the F$%#ing questions they could be asked. Why do they act shocked when they hear a question? Some even say that there can’t be any questions worse than the ones they’ve answered already. Again, THEY KNOW THE QUESTIONS!!!! They know ahead of time that their marriage will be destroyed if they answer them, yet they choose to continue.

Some of the contestants, when they think it is getting too bad, give up and take the money. Their spouse has to know that the answers to the rest of the questions have to be worse than what they’re already heard. Leaving the show doesn’t change that. At that point, why don’t they stay on the show and make an easy $500,000?

Do you think that’s the worst of it? Of course not. Remember, the contestants know the answers to the questions (you know, because it’s the truth). Some of these people are actually stupid enough to answer incorrectly!

Imagine if I told you that you could be on a game show, I’ll give you all the answers, all you have to do is regurgitate them. How dumb do you have to be to not go with the answers I give you?
