Getting a Nintendo Wii on Sunday!!!
As many of you may already know, I’m getting a Nintendo Wii this Sunday. It’s the next generation Nintendo console (after the Gamecube). Nintendo has been very quiet about this gaming system so far, because it’s cool enough to sell itself by word of mouth alone.
I haven’t owned a gaming system other than a computer since the original Playstation. I only got the Playstation because a friend had 2 of them, and offered to give me one if I bought him a certain game. I found the game online, and shortly I owned my very own Playstation. A couple of months ago I got it out, dusted it off, and hooked it up to my 51″ HDTV. I was sadly disappointed at how grainy the picture was. I think the resolution was something like 30×40. Well maybe not that low, but it was so bad that I didn’t want to play it.
Ok, so back to the Wii. This game is pretty awesome because instead of adding more buttons to the controller like they normally do, they actually removed a whole bunch. My brain has been unable to cope with the exponential increase of buttons since the Super Nintendo. The new remote is motion sensitive, so it finally DOES matter if you lean and move while playing a game. Old people will now be gaming masters!
The new controller design means that you can use it as a gun, sword, boxing glove, or just about anything else you can think of. It really does put you in the game. You can use 4 at one time, and they are all wireless.

One of my favorite games of all time is Super Monkey Ball, and they have a new Monkey Ball game coming out for the Wii when it launches. I’m definitely picking up a copy. The Gamcube game has 10 mini games, and this one has 50! The system will also play Gamecube games, so I can pick up some cheap games.
The actual Wii system itself is about the size of 3 DVD cases, and sits up vertically. It has built in wireless Internet connectivity, so the only wire coming out of it is for power.

This thing is going to be a good time. I have Thanksgiving week and Christmas week off, so you can guess what I’ll be doing. Other people will be begging me to play, and I can make them do my bidding. Oh yeah. Giggity.
