Blogging Software Upgraded

I recently upgraded to Community Server 1.1. The site was down a little longer than I had hoped, so if you saw any error messages, don’t worry, I know about it, and it’s all good now.

Community Server 1.0 had a lot of issues, and it seems like they have been worked out for the most part. 1.1 was a breeze to configure, and supported my strange configuration much better.

Be sure to let me know if you run into any issues. Thanks!

Motorola E815 Mobile Phone Review

I finally got the Motorola E815 that I had mentioned. This phone is awesome is just about every way imaginable. The only thing I found that it was missing was analog service, but I found out that the standard plans from Verizon no longer include analog service. I don’t see that being a problem since their coverage area is pretty awesome. They cover 93% of the country, and the other 7% isn’t worth visiting anyway.

One of the best features of this phone is the bluetooth capability. Unfortunately, Verizon wants to steal all of your money, so they removed all the bluetooth features. It only allows you to use a wireless headset with it. The hacker that I am, I found excellent instructions to re-enable all of the bluetooth features. Be sure to read those instructions if you want to use this phone to it’s full potential.

Hacking this phone makes it so that it supports OBEX, which I believe stands for Object exchange. It allows you to basically browse the files on the phone like a folder. That’s great because you can just drag the photos off of it, or drag now ringers or videos on to it. If you don’t have this ability, you need to spend $.25 PER PHOTO to send them to yourself. That’s pretty rediculous if you ask me.

I’ve been using the phone so much for business and family calls that I want to get a better headset. I currently have a wired headset that works pretty good, but I’m thinking that bluetooth would rock. Bluetooth headsets can range from $30-$100 and it’s a crap shoot. The cost does not seem to correspond directly to quality or performance. I’ve read reviews of a lot of $100 units that were really bad. After a ton of research, I came accross the Plantronics M3000. That’s the brand of headset I use at work, and it works very well. I was able to find this unit for $30 at eCost.com! It seems to be the best value out there. It even has a replaceable NIMH battery that is good for 8 hours of talk time, and 200 hours of standby. The only real complaint that I read was that it looked goofy and may be a bit heavy. I can live with that for a deal.

That’s all I have to say about that for now.
