Getting rid of home phone

Due to the 20:1 ratio of telemarker calls to actual calls, Melissa and I are dropping our home phone service. Be sure that you call our mobile phones from now on. This is also going to save us some money. Every penny I can avoid giving to the bloodsucking phone companies the better. If you don’t know our numbers, you can send me a message from this site. Thanks!

Celebrities Deliver Packages for Amazon.com

I know it’s just a cheap marketing ploy, but I thought it was very clever that Amazon.com decided to have celebrities deliver some packages. For example, Anna Kournikova delivered some shoes to a doctor and Minnie Driver delivered a copy of Phantom of the Opera. The funniest part was the fact that the people seemed confused as to who was giving them the package. Most people probably don’t think that a celebrity is really visiting them. I wonder how Amazon talked them into doing this. I’m guessing that Harrison Ford is an expensive delivery driver.

Anyway, I know this is a cheap plug, but if you ever need to track your packages from UPS or USPS, be sure to use http://www.SimpleTracking.com

New wireless phones for Melissa and I

In my never ending quest to keep my money away from the blood-sucking phone companies, I switched phone plans. It’s really sad that the only way to get a great deal is to switch carriers every year or 2. I’ve been a loyal customer of Sprint PCS since before they even offered commercial service here in Green Bay.  The day has come when a deal too tempting has presented itself.  Because of my current employeer, we receive an employee discount on Verizon service. I also noticed that they have a pretty good family plan. Here are the details:

  • 500 shared anytime minutes
  • Unlimited nights and weekends
  • Unlimited calling to Verizon customers
  • Wireless Internet out of voice minutes
  • Insane phone deals

The only thing I really lost was my unlimited Internet access.  That’s not really a big deal, because when I did use it, it was not for a long period of time. The Verizon service just uses up your minutes, but you don’t have to pay extra for it. I’m not sure if it’s unlimited on nights and weekends.

One of the biggest perks with signing up with them, is the outrageous phone deals if you sign a 2 year agreement. I got a Motorola E815 phone, and Melissa got a Samsung A650.  Here is what my phone has:

  • 1.3 Megapixel camera w/flash
  • Huge screen
  • Exterior screen with caller Id, etc
  • Bluetooth
  • 40mb built in storage, and a card slot for more
  • MP3 player
  • Video recording capability
  • Speakerphone
  • Anything else you can think of

Because of my employee discount, my phone was only $50, and Melissa’s was free. I would have paid $100 without the discount. I got the total plan for $50/month instead of the normal $60/month. My phones should be showing up Friday, and my number will be switching over a few days after. If there is any downtime, that is probably why. It’s going to be good times.

Lots of new photos uploaded

I finally got all the photos off my camera. They are uploading as I speak type. I uploaded some (too many) from Adam and Jeni’s gift opening. I also uploaded some of my special little boy Ryan.

Ryan looking cute!

Microsoft Money 2006

A new version of Microsoft Money was released recently. I’ve been a compulsive upgrader of the product for years, because I use it so much. However, the new feature list looks pretty disappointing (see below). Is there anything new that isn’t on this list?

  • Your budget, your way: It’s simple to track spending in categories you want to watch closely-like dining out, entertainment or clothing. Spending thermometers show you at a glance exactly how much you’ve spent and when you’re getting close to budget limits. And, now you can track as many favorite categories as you want!

  • View and track Exchange Traded Funds: With Money 2006 Premium you can view and track your investments in Exchange Traded Funds.
  • Stay on top of your investments. Automated price quotes keep your portfolio calculations up to date and make sure ROI calculations are current.
  • Improved account and transaction matching. Now Money 2006 Premium makes it even easier to keep accounts up to date.

Does anyone have any comments on this version? Is there anything that makes it worth upgrading?
