Upgrading Blogs

I’m upgrading my blog system tonight or tomorrow morning, so I apologize if it’s down for a little while. It will be awesome once it’s back up.

Gamecube Party

Last night I had a view friends over to have a Gamecube party. I invited Shawn, Adam, Jeff, and his girlfriend. Melissa also played for a little while after. We played a lot of Mario Party 4, Mario Kart Double Dash, and Super Monkey Ball 2.

Playing Mario Kart, Jeff and I came from be behind in Mario Kart to devistate Adam and Shawn. We had the same score, but the Gamecube must have recognized the better players. It was a lot of fun playing teams and only having to focus on driving or shooting.

We also gave Adams favorite game “Time Splitters 2″ a try. I don’t really know what it has to do with splitting time. It’s more like a game of strategic configuration. We spent 3 weeks (exaggerating just a little) choosing our settings. Adam must know the secret cheat codes because I shot at least a dozen rockets at him, and then he threw a rock at me and I died. He said I was hitting the wall behind him. Would you feel comfortable with someone shooting rockets into the wall right behind you? Didn’t think so.

Monkey Ball 2 has to be one of the best party games out there. Most of the games are extremely easy to figure out, so everyone has a good time. We played a punching fist game that only required you to hit 1 button, and walk around. You are just a monkey inside of a ball, but you have a fist on a spring attached. The goal is to knock your opponents off the field. As time progresses, there are power-ups like “iron fist”, and one that makes your spring longer. Anyway, it’s one of the best games out there. You can get sort of a feel for what it like by playing this web version.

Jeff also had his Playstation 2 along, so we tried out Gran Turismo 4. Of course it’s the best racing game ever. He also showed us a game where you are some kind of magnet thing, and the goal is to go around and have stuff stick to you. The bigger you get, the larger the objects you can pick up. Eventually you can pick up stadiums, cruise ships, and skyscrapers.

The entire party was a blast. I can’t wait to set up something like this again. Next time it may be a LAN party in the basement so that we can get a lot of players. We always have a ton of fun. I uploaded all the photos I took.

Funny Email From my DVR Company

I recieved this email earlier this week from the company that makes my DVR (Digitial Video Recorder):

Dear DVR Subscriber,

It has just been brought to our attention that the providers of the program information in your interactive program guide have labeled tonight’s and tomorrow’s episodes of “American Idol” as re-runs when, in fact, they are first run episodes. So, if you’ve set up your DVR to record first-run only episodes of American Idol, it will not be recorded tonight or tomorrow night.

To ensure that these episodes are recorded, you will need to manually schedule each of them again by time or by program name for tonight and tomorrow night.

If you have any friends or neighbors who are not members of the Explorer eClub, you might want to let them know about this.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

Sincerely,

Scientific-Atlanta

Citibank? Bank One? Chase?

My Sony card used to be with Citibank, and it was good. Then my card was bought out by the credit card Nazi’s known as Bank One, and they switched my Mastercard to Visa. Now I got a letter saying that Chase bought out Bank One. Here we go again.

Americal Idol Winner & Voting System

I’m watching American Idol right now and I already know who I want to win. Carrie Underwood. She made everyone else look and sound bad. It’s painful to watch the others now.

Speaking of American Idol, I have a big problem with their voting system. You vote for the best person, but the one with the least amount of votes goes home. That means that someone that everyone really likes can go home. For example, if someone is the second favorite for a lot of people, they may not get any votes! The voting power would be split between the other contestants. To correct it, I think you should vote for who you like the least, or give each contestant an ordered rating.

This problem was demonstrated in an episode where the best singers got the least amount of votes. The singers that were very solid slipped between the cracks, and the voting power was spread between the other singers.

Melissa’s Birthday - Photos Uploaded

Melissa’s birthday was on Valentine’s day, and I’m just now finally uploading the photos from it. It was a good night. We went to the Wally S. Spot restaurant which was pretty good, but very expensive. It was about $50.00 for just Melissa and I.

After that, we came back with everyone for a giant cake and ice cream. Ryan was very happy to get all the attention. Melissa

And yes, I uploaded another batch of Ryan. Most of them are of him sleeping because he is way to funny asleep. Ryan Drooling

Blog Idea - Related Search Results

I have an idea that would be a great feature for blog software. I get a lot of people visiting because they searched for a model number of something that I blogged about at one point. For example, I get a lot of people that are searching for KP51WS520, because that is the model of the TV I have blogged about. When the user gets to a page because of a specific search, your page should use the referrer to determine what search terms were used. Then the page could have a special menu that shows other posts that also match those search results. If someone were to search for the model of my TV, they would get one of my pages, but could easily jump to all the other posts I have made about it as well.

This is definitely on the bottom of my list, but I think it’s a cool idea.

Melissa lost her email

Melissa lost the emails she has received for about the past month. If you sent her something, please resend it. You should be able to get it from your “sent emails”. I’m going to switch her over to my email server so that it doesn’t happen again. Apparently if Outlook Express downloads email and then you have to reboot because of a lock-up, you can lose the email because it hasn’t been saved to disk yet.

Another Step in Melissa’s Confirmation & Ryan’s Vacation

Ryan spend the whole day with my parents. Melissa and I went to church in the morning, and then we had to go to a confirmation ceremony in De Pere. It had something to do with the church and the Bishop (who was there) accepting her into the church. After the 2 hour ceremony, we went to a party afterwards. It was pretty fun, and everyone had a good time joking around. The food was excellent. Simple, but in great variety.

After the long day, we picked Ryan back up. Apparently he was pretty good for his grandparents, and they liked having him visit. It was raining but the roads were fine. On BB, there was a slippery section, as usual. It’s the same place that I spun out of control once before. There are big trees, so they block the sun, so the ice likes to build up there. Anyway, there was a jeep that had flipped over, and got smashed up pretty good. It’s doubtful that anyone survived. I was driving by at about 10mph, but the car was still sliding around. It’s very dangerous when the roads are fine, but with a section of ice. Once we got back to Green Bay, we found out it was snowing there.
