Ryan Is Finally Here!

As I mentioned before, Melissa was scheduled for a c-section on the 30th. However, baby Ryan was not happy with that date, so he decided to move it up!

Right as we were about to go to bed Sunday night, Melissa went into labor. We called the hospital, and they paged the doctor that was on call, which also happened to be Melissa’s regular doctor. Her doctor called back within a minute or two, and told us to go in to the hospital. The operating room was free, and everyone was available to go ahead with the c-section. It only took about 30 minutes of surgury. Ryan was out within the first 5-10 minutes.

Ryan was born November 29, 2004 at 12:52 a.m. at Aurora. He was 7lbs 15oz, and 19″ inches long. He is very healthy, and behaves extremely well. He sleeps very soundly, and then wakes up when he is hungry. He immediately figured out how to use the bottle, and was a healthy eater from the start. The nurses say if he is as good at home as he is at the hospital, then we are very lucky.

Melissa is doing well. Everything was easier than she thought it would be, but it’s still hard on her. It’s going to take some time for her to recover. Tonight she was able to get up and walk around a little bit. Both her and the baby will be staying for 3-4 days (until Wednesday or Thursday).

Ryan has had a lot of loving family members visit him. He loves to have everyone hold him. Thanks for all the gifts that we have received! If you want to visit Ryan, please call my mobile phone, and I can let you know the best time to visit. Both Ryan and Melissa have to be in good condition.

A lot of people have been taking photos, and I’ve been trying to get a copy of all of them. Most of the first photos were taken with a regular film camera, so we have to wait to develop them. The digital photos have been uploaded here. If you have more photos, please get me a copy. If you want any of the photos in their original resolution, please let me know.

Hanging out at Jeni’s

Friday night we went over to Jeni’s house. We played with her ginea pig and played some games. Brian and Maxine also joined us for a game of Fact or Crap. I uploaded some photos (mostly of the pig) here.

UPS Package Tracking With RSS

I wrote an RSS feed for UPS package tracking and put it up on my main website (http://www.young-technologies.com/Utilities/PackageTracking/).

Update!

I moved the UPS and USPS tracking services to their own domain: http://www.SimpleTracking.com

Black Friday 2004

Today (the day after Thanksgiving), is known as “black friday.” Supposedly because this is the day that stores typically become profitable. They are no longer in the red.

In what has become a tradition, my mother and I went to Best Buy. They had quite a few deals that we took advantage of. I picked up a Toshiba Laptop for $499, some wireless hardware for $20, some DVD+r’s for $3, and a 160gb Western Digital Hard Drive for $30. My mom picked up a few of the same, as well as some DVD players and some other electronics. Since Kathy is in from Michigan, she decided to join us to pick up some deals.

We arrived at around 4:00am, and we were about the 50th person in line. The person in the front of the line had been camped out since 11:00pm. They had sleeping bags and blankets spread out on the side walk. By the time the store opened, the line stretched to the back of the side of the store, the whole way to the 172 bridge. Back there it curved back, came up the sidewalk back to the front of the store, and went across the entire parking lot. There were literally hundreds of people in line, and it was probably more than a quarter of a mile long.

When we entered the store, the employees were all lined up and were clapping as we walked in. Since there were three of us, we had formulated a plan based on what we needed, and based on the map of the store. I got the networking kits and the DVD’s right away. Then I jumped in the computer line since I saw that it was moving so fast. Buy the time Mom and Kathy caught up with me, the computer line had easily over 100 people in it. While I was in line, I walked by the empty shelves where the 160gb hard drives were. Everyone had purchased those right away. I lucked out, because a Best Buy employee walked over and put 1 more on the shelf, I asked him for it and he handed it to me. I waited about another hour to get the laptops and check out, and met up with Mom and Kathy at the front of the store as they were completing their checkout. We were out of the store by 8:08.

Now everyone needs to spend a few hours filling out rebate forms…

Thanksgiving 2004

Yesterday Melissa and I went to Mike & Maria’s for our Thanksiving feast. Kathy and Zack from Detroit Michigan were also there. The food was amazing! The stuffing, the mashed potatoes, the turkey, all excellent. I also got a chance to try some white chili, which was very delicious. They always have an impressiving assortment of food. Afterwards, we played some UNO, guys against girls, and the guys dominated, skunking the girls. I didn’t see the girls cheating this time, which may have been a factor in their defeat.

My dad had his camera so I didn’t take any photos. I uploaded his here.

Uploaded Tailgate Photos

I uploaded some photos from the tailgate party I went to last week. They can be seen here. I forgot my camera, but Barry took some and gave me a copy.

Jane’s Birthday Party

Last night we celebrated Jane’s birthday party. For supper we went to Red Lobster. Melissa and I both had the ultimate feast. It was good, but expensive. Afterwards, we went back to Rick and Jane’s to open presents, and eat cake and ice cream. The cake was from Wal-Mart, and was delicious. The ice cream was the perfect complement. We then watched one of Jane’s presents, Shrek 2. Now that they know the correct mode to use for their DVD player, the picture is unbeatable. I would rather watch a movie on a good HD system than at the theater. Happy birthday Jane!

I uploaded some photos here.

Ryan’s Getting Close

Melissa and I went to the doctor on Tuesday and found out that the baby is still not flipped over. They have the ability to attempt to turn the baby, but the success rate is extremely low, and could cause a lot of pain for Melissa. Melissa will be getting a cesarean section November 30th. If she goes into labor before that, they will move it up. We plan on allowing visitors on December 1st. We will be staying in the hospital at least until the 3rd for Melissa’s recovery. We are anxiously awaiting his arrival!
