Refinancing

I’m going to be refinancing my home mortgage. I can do it for free, and I’ll be able to drop my PMI insurance. My house has gone up in value enough that I will only be borrowing 80% of the total value. It will save me about $73/month. If rates go down more, I can refinance again at no charge. Works for me.

Road Work

It looks like they will be working on our road over the next few days. They are putting the final surface on. That should help get rid of the cliff at the end of our driveway. They said it should take 2-3 days and our street will be open to local traffic only.

Finally Some Photos

I finally uploaded some photo’s. I took a couple of the nursery, and uploaded them here. I also uploaded some new photos of my office at this end of this gallery.

No Photos, yet

I took some photos of my office and the nursery, but my photo hosting provider seems to be down right now. I guess I’ll post them tomorrow. Sorry for the delay!

My Office Is Done!

Today I was very busy, I put in the suspended ceiling, installed the carpeting, and started moving into my new office.

The suspended ceiling was a breeze, and turned out really good. It’s made up of 2×2 tiles. The 2×4 tiles were 1.80 each, and the 2×2 tiles were 1.70 each, so I bought the 4 footers, and cut them in half. I ended up estimating the materials I need almost perfectly. I was short 4 of the 4 foot sections, and had 3 extra 2 foot sections. I went with a suspended ceiling because I wanted access to the pipes and wires that go over my office. It is also pretty good at obsorbing sound from and above the room.

The carpeting was pretty easy. It took me a while to figure out how to put a 12 foot wide roll in an office that is 11 feet wide. I had to unroll it and fold it up. Then I took it in and unfolded it. The carpeting already has backing installed. I used carpet tape to secure it to the floor. I don’t want that stuff flying up on me :-). Before I read the directions, I tried trimming the edges of the carpet. After messing that up a few times, I decided to read the directions. They instructed me to use a putty knife to push the carpet into the corner, and then cut it off. That worked much better.

I don’t have any photos yet, because I don’t have the card reader set up on my computer yet. It’s in the pile of stuff waiting to move in to my office. I’ll be able to post some tomorrow evening.

Temporary Office

We needed to get to work on the nursery, so I had to move everything out of my office, and down into the basement. I haven’t blogged much recently because I only got my computer set up yesterday. Right now, it’s only set up temporarily. I’m going to be putting in the suspended ceiling and the carpeting tomorrow, and then I should be able to move all my stuff into my new office. I’ll post more info when that happens!

Jeni’s 24th Birthday

Happy birthday Jeni!

In case you don’t know, Jeni is my brother-in-law’s fiance. She turned 24 today, so we all celebrated by going to Los Banditos. The food was pretty good. I had a chicken chimichunga. They heard us saying that it was her birthday, so they brought us out some dessert. After that, we went back to Brian and Maxine’s for cake and ice cream. Adam made the cake, and it was delicious. After that we watched some interesting videos on the Internet, and then I beat Eric 2 times at pool. It was a fun evening, and a nice break from all the work I have been doing on the office.

Office Almost Ready

I installed one of my lights, and I found out one of them was broken. I’m worrying that the lights are not going to be bright enough. They are both equivent to 100 watt light bulbs, but they are designed to reflect light off of a ceiling. Since I don’t really have a reflective ceiling right now, it is very dark. I also put on all the wall plates and finished up the electrical work. Friday I plan on taking Melissa with me to pick out some really cheap carpeting. I was going to use an area rug, but it is just too small. It would be annoying having a floor that is half thick rug, and half concrete.

I also got my server and UPS moved downstairs into the data/electrical room. My current office should be a lot cooler and quieter now that I don’t have a computer heating it all day.

Tomorrow is Jeni’s birthday, and we are going to Los Banditos. Happy birthday Jeni! That means I won’t be working on the basement at all tomorrow. Friday I plan on finishing moving all my stuff down there.

Insurance

I called my insurance company to get an update on my claim. I’m waiting to get my deductible back from my accident. They said they have been unable to contact the lady that caused the accident. That probably means she is uninsured, and has nothing to lose. They said the next step was to send her a letter. They are going to offer her a payment plan, in the hopes that she will make them. If and when they get some money, I am at the top of the list to get it. They also said they can take her to court, and make it so that she can’t legally drive or get loans, etc. They said that sometimes it can take years, and the other driver will try to get a loan, and realize that they need to pay the insurance company first. At that time, I would get my money back.

I guess I just have to wait and see what happens. I can’t really count on getting that money back any time soon.
