Office Drywall Done

Sunday, Brian came over and helped me hang all the drywall. It was a long day, but it was worth it. I uploaded some more photos to the gallery. Afterwards, he took us out to the China Buffet for an excellent meal. Thanks Brian!

2 Year Anniversary

Today was our anniversary. We have been together for 2 years! I got Melissa a beautiful bouquet of roses. The last weekend this month we are going up to Door County. We will be staying at the Open Hearth Lodge. Melissa’s parents have stayed there, and we have also checked it out. We know it is a very nice place. We will be able to get in some swimming in the pool, and relaxing in the hot tub.

Ben & Nicole’s Wedding

Saturday we went to Ben and Nicole’s wedding. We had a really good time. The ceremony was great; I could tell that Ben and Nicole were very nervous, but very happy. There were a lot of people there, and I know most of the people in the wedding party.

After the wedding, I was invited back to Nicole’s parent’s house for a little party. It was the first time Melissa and I met them and saw their house. They seemed like really good people. The location of their house was awesome. They live pretty close to us, but they are out in the country with some land, and a nice size pond.

At the reception, the food was excellent. Great mashed potatoes and chicken. We sat at a table that had a great view of the wedding party, and was also one of the first tables to get to go to the buffet. The DJ was great, but I already know that, because it was the same company that was at our wedding. The speeches were excellent, and it was really neat to see how everyone I know is all connected in some way now.

Begin Flashback….
Back in the day, I knew two main groups of people; those I grew up with, and those I worked with. At the time, Ben was my roommate, and I was working at OfficeMax. We would try to throw crazy parties. Sometimes they were awesome, sometimes they sucked. Anyway, we had some people over that I used to work with (Brianne, Amy, etc). One time, they decided to bring their friend Nicole. I don’t really remember Nicole saying much. After that party, someone informed Ben that Nicole thought he was cute. That’s when it all started. I’ll just leave it at that.
End Flashback….

Another great feature of the reception was a video that Nicole’s parents had produced. It was a photo timeline of them both from birth to present day, set to music. It was really great to see, and was very thoughtful. As a side note, there was a photo of the couple from our wedding!

Throughout the night, I got to catch up with a lot of old friends that I hadn’t seen in a long time. I even got to see some parents that I remember well. Namely, Mike’s parent’s, and Ben’s parents. Everyone was excited to hear the news of the baby we have on the way. Mike’s parents insisted on being informed when he is born. I also got to talk to Richie and Brianne quite a bit. They were so happy to see us that we may be going out to supper some time at Victoria’s.

So later that night, it came time for the garter toss. I have been to many weddings, so I know how these things work. Everyone thinks that the thing is going to go flying 20 to 30 feet, but in reality, goes about 10 feet. I have observed that the person standing in the front, catches it 90% of the time. I told Richie these facts, and told him what to do. He followed my instructions, and of course, he caught it. He owes me one for that. Unfortunately, the girl who caught the bouquet, was about 1/3 his height, so they didn’t dance.

So anyway, I’m sure I’ve done a good job at telling a fragmented story. I’m sure I’m forgetting millions of things, but I’ll leave it at that. I’m really happy for them, and I know that they will be happy together. I can’t recall a time I saw them disagreeing or not in love. Hopefully Melissa and I will start seeing more of them. I don’t want to stay so far out of touch. Ben was the best friend I ever had. Move back to Green Bay Ben!

Our Deacon Visit

Tonight we met a deacon of Melissa’s church. Heand his wife live just a few streets over, so the drive was trivial. They were both very nice, and seemed to be very “down to earth”. We also met another girl going through the process of getting confirmed. Her husband was also there, and he had been previously confirmed. I think this will be a good experience for Melissa. She will probably have a lot of fun, and get to meet a lot of nice people. Her meetings begin at the end of September.

Office Insulation Done

I got the insulation installed in the outside wall of my office. It went pretty easily, and I only used 2 rolls. Of course I took a picture of it. I also got the last network/phone jack wired up. I just need to wire for the lights, and put up the drywall.

Hole at the end of my driveway

Last night I came home to find a giant hole at the end of my driveway. Looks like they are going to replace the concrete now. Did it really have to be so deep? There is another at the corner of my property. The photos are here: http://public.fotki.com/SuperJason/miscellaneous/road_work_aug_04/

Melissa’s Movie

Tonight we drove up to Marinette so that Melissa could play a part in an independent film that her friend from work is making. Melissa played a waitress in a coffee shop. I took a few photos, and uploaded them here. I was in a scene for about 1 second. My job was to nod as she took my order. The scene started with me, as the camera panned across the room.

Basement Update

Today I got the air duct’s framed in. They were a little tricky, because of all the stuff in the way to mount them. To get them level, I had to have them support the duct work. The original support brackets had to be removed. They are very sturdy, and will work well to attach the drywall to. You can see a photo here. For my office, I ran some coxial cable so that I have a cable line in there. I won’t need it for anything now, but it was easier than adding it later. I also uploaded more photos to the basement gallery located here.

I was at Menards picking up supplies today. While I was there I was looking at my lighting options. I think that I’m going to put lights on all the walls in my office and the family room. It will be a lot easier than putting lighting into the suspended ceiling. I found some really nice one’s for $35. I wish I had a photo to post. When I buy them I’ll be sure to take a picture.

So here is all I have left to do before moving into my office:

  • Run Cat-5 (network) cable to 1 more wall jack
  • Install light switch
  • insulate outside wall
  • Hang, tape, mud, and paint drywall

I’m going to leave the floor and ceiling unfinished for now.

Norelco Razors

Melissa and I were at Target looking at some baby stuff. While we were there, I took at look at the razor refills for my Norelco electric razor. They cost $21.99! Yeah that ’s right $22 for REFILLS. So I looked around for some other options. I found a new electric razor, that had a better shave head, for $24.99. So I bought that one, and now I have a spare razor in case I need on. When I got home, I tried the new head on the old razor, and sure enough, it fit the same. It turned out to be a good upgrade. I guess it must cost Norelco $3.00 to make a razor, but $22 to make the head/cutters.

Basement Progress

Today my dad an my uncle came over for half a day. Mike got a lot of framing done, not too much farther to go. My dad and I were able to get some drywall from Menard’s. Adam from work came over and helped me carry it all into the basement. That stuff is heavy (110 lbs each). I can finally get the walls done in my office.
